1:1 Material Study

I created a section of the exterior cladding for my design. I have focused on the fragmented weatherboards cut off the original house and placed on the new. I stained them to make them durable in all weather conditions and to give them have a neat, clean finish.

Indigo Render

I decided to render my model on Indigo Render. I found that this programme made my design appear more three dimensional, especially with the accurate direction of shadows. However, I didn't like the 'fake' look that I ended up with. Although it was a nice way to see my model through a different perspective, I will continue to develop my model using SketchUp, Photoshop and hand drawing. I want to make the design look more sketchy and collage-like by continuously adding layers of colour, materiality, lines, shadows and texture.

Adding colour/texture to house

Objects in house are to show scale and potential positioning of furniture. They will be removed for my final design.

Repositioning of house

Repositioning the house so that the original east facing windows are now north facing. This allows for the occupants to efficiently make the most out of the morning sun. Windows are placed on majority of the north facing side so that the house will be heated throughout the day. An outdoor area upstairs, behind the building, will get afternoon sun while the large backyard will get sunlight from dawn till dusk.

Space Planning: Renovated Design

In these diagrams, I have colour coded the spaces according to:
- Blue: circulation and flow through the space (light blue is a place of less circulation, dark blue has more circulation and is a fluid space)
-Purple: functional and spatial relationships.

In my new renovated model, I have cut out walls and rearranged rooms and spaces. By doing this, I have opened up the area so that separate rooms, like the kitchen and living for example, are now joined into one space to allow for better flow and movement throughout the house.
